The Portuguese Water Dog was #49 and now is #44 on the Most Popular Dog in the 2021 USA AKC List. In 2003 it was listed at #71. I wonder if it will rise further to the top in the coming years? Rose one number so far! The Portuguese Water Dog is in the Working Group, a Medium Size Dog that can have Wavy or Curly Hair comes in Black, White or Brown or combinations of all. These Dogs were on Boats, would swim, dive, retrieve fish and nets, bring notes back and forth from boats or boat to shore and then they were guard dogs for the boats. Almost gone by the 20th century but Dr. Vasco Bensaude saved the breed. This Breed with recognized by the AKC in 1983.
