Few brands can boast a history of making pilot’s watches that dates back to 1910, and Oris is one of them. The Big Crown Pointer Dates pay homage to this early era by pairing a classical complication with vintage typography, and a coin-edge bezel case. Deftly riding the line between a refined casual timepiece and vintage-inspired sports watch, the Big Crown Pointer Date has a presence and charm that is unique amongst watches currently on the market.
Featuring a 38mm case with mixed brushed and polished surfaces, the Big Crown Pointer Date is a modern take on a vintage aesthetic. The beautiful finishing is set off by the rounded, coin-edge bezel, which speaks strongly to early 20th-century pilot’s watches. Similarly, the cathedral hour and minute hands add to the antique charm. The dial is then a series of indexes featuring a thin, elegant typeface. The namesake complication stands out along the outer edge of the dial, providing a unique and highly legible date presentation.
This special version is a collaboration between Oris and Cervo Volante, a sustainable leather goods brand. Utilizing deer leather skins that would otherwise be waste, Cervo Volante creates luxury leather goods that are low impact. Their skins are all vegetable-tanned, for a gorgeous color that requires no toxic chemicals. The Oris watches all feature straps, as well as carrying cases and an additional card wallet made by Cervo Volante
Inside of the Big Crown X Cervo Volante is the Oris 754 / Sellita SW 200 movement. This is a 26-jewel Swiss-made automatic with 38-hour power reserve, pointer date, hacking seconds and a frequency of 28,800 bph. Visible through the display case back, the Oris 754 also features their signature red rotor.
